Enriching Education Through Academics

The West Shore Foundation (WSF) supports academics because academic success has a positive effect on a student’s self-esteem, health, and financial independence in adulthood. By emphasizing technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and supporting literacy initiatives, WSF is preparing students for life in the 21st century and ensuring their individual happiness and ability to achieve personal goals.

One important literacy program supported by WSF is the Kindergarten Acceleration Program, or KAP. KAP is an extended-day kindergarten program in which students preview new information, build on prior knowledge, increase background knowledge, and acquire new vocabulary that reinforces the skills and concepts taught in the classroom. The West Shore School District currently provides four KAP sessions, each serving approximately 20 students. WSF also contributes to literacy initiatives by donating K to 12 fiction and non-fiction reading materials.

Academic programs and activities supported by WSF include:

Giving to the West Shore Foundation may include individual cash donations, corporate matching funds, endowments, and pledges. Each gift is welcomed and deeply appreciated.
