What We Do. THE ARTS
Enriching Education Through The Arts
The West Shore Foundation (WSF) supports the arts because individual creativity and expression play a fundamental role in connecting students to the world. Involvement in the arts is associated with gains in math and reading as well as cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skills. Engaging with the arts has also been shown to improve motivation, concentration, confidence and teamwork, which creates the framework for social bonding and community cohesion.
Cultural event grants are an important part of WSF’s support of the arts in the West Shore School District. Grants are awarded to up to five schools annually, and grant amounts range from $1,000 to $1,500.
Arts programs and activities supported by WSF include:
- Professional Big Band (West Shore Jazz Festival)
- Band Camp Leadership Program
- Instrumental Music Programs
- Choral Programs
- Art, Drama, and Cultural Programs
