Grants In Action: Low Vision Simulation Kits

Innovation Grant Brings Powerful Low Vision Simulation Experience to West Shore Schools

West Shore School District Educator Carrie Livingston received a West Shore Foundation Educator Innovation Grant to bring a Zimmerman Low Vision Simulation Kit to our schools. This innovative tool allows students and staff to experience what it’s like to live with visual impairments such as cataracts, tunnel vision, or macular degeneration. By fostering empathy and understanding, the kit will enrich academics, leadership programs, and staff training across K–12, helping our community design more inclusive projects and classrooms. At an Adaptive Game Night, students and families explored what it’s like to experience activities with visual impairments using our vision simulation goggles. Siblings joined in a tactile art project, gaining a deeper understanding of how their brothers and sisters navigate the world. A powerful night of empathy, connection, and creativity!
